UPMC Altoona celebrated a year of significant infrastructure and clinical growth during its annual meeting held yesterday. In a move to prioritize patient and staff safety the hospital reported installation of an “Evolv” weapons detention system at its main entrances. The security upgrade followed an increase in the hospital’s safety team which now includes six additional police officers and two security guards. The hospital also bolstered its workforce and services, and noted the future opening of the UPMC Mercy School of Nursing which has already excepted 54 students for its inaugural class. Finally, UPMC Altoona noted that it has expanded specialty care involving women’s health, orthopedics, and stroke care.
