State Invests Millions To Improve Roads And Bridges

The Shapiro Administration has announced a $209 million investment in the Laurel Highlands region for 2026, funding 53 projects aimed at improving 105 miles of roadway and 89 bridges across six counties. The initiative, spanning Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset counties, includes major work on Interstate 99 and U.S. 219, advancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.   Overall highlights in the 2026 construction season for District 9 include:

 

  • Approximately 105 miles of paving.

  • Approximately 89 bridges will be repaired or replaced.

  • Approximately 396 miles of roadway will be seal coated.

 

The investments, managed by PennDOT District 9, aim to enhance safety, support the regional economy, and improve transportation for residents and businesses.
