Blair County Has First Ever Dog Park

Duncansville Borough has officially marked a community milestone with the opening of Beau’s Dog Park, the first free public dog park in Blair County.  Located at 601 Park Drive, adjacent to Memorial Park, the new facility offers a dedicated space for local pets to exercise and socialize off-leash.  The park was born from the combined efforts of local residents and youth leadership.  It was originally proposed as as Eagle Scout project by 16-year-old Aran Corey, who used design platforms to plan the facility.  The project gained significant momentum when resident Nicole Flanders approached the borough to raise awareness and funds for canine chronic kidney disease.  The park is named in memory of her dog, Beau, who passed away from the disease at age five.  Flanders raised a substantial portion of the project’s $9,000 cost through a local 5K race, leading the borough to name the facility in Beau’s honor.  A formal grand opening is scheduled for May 17th, from 2-5 p.m.  (Above photo courtesy of Nicole Flanders.)
