News reports indicate the accident occurred at the intersection of 3rd avenue and 1st street in the city around 7pm last evening. Details are thin this morning, but Altoona Police report that witnesses told them that the girl was riding her bicycle when she apparently ran through the stop sign and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The child was flown to UPMC Children’s hospital in Pittsburgh for further treatment. Charges are not likely to be filed due to a witnesses account of the accident.
