The Altoona Mirror reports that AMED says it is losing in the neighborhood of $15,000 a month for unpaid bills. AMED says that people who have passed away, did not have accessable insurance or estates that would have allowed it to recover monies owned. AMED Executive Director Gary Watters said that the percentage of unpaid bills has risen from 40% of people who died 4 years ago, to 90% currently. The $15,000 monthly figure is twice as much as it was in 2021. Watters said that this is happening all over the industry, and is costing ambulance companies hundreds of thousands of dollars.
