A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that AMED will offer classes to train people for emergency technician. The class slated to being next month has drawn 33 applicants. Which is more than two previous classes combined. AMED also said that getting paramedics requires training that is affiliated with a college or university, and AMED is not in that position at the moment. Exec Director Gary Watters says that AMED would like to provide its own paramedics, but it just can’t do that at the present time. Paramedics provide advanced life saving support, while EMT’s provide first aid. The report indicated that AMED is not short of paramedics, but would like to hire more if possible.
