According to a report in the Altoona Mirror, the district spends an average of just under $16,000 on each student for their education. The district business office calculated the amount using figures of school districts of similar size and enrollments. Business office manager Camilla Houy said that this shows what Altoona has done with the budget they are working with. At the upper end of the scale, Upper Merion School District which has 2000 less students enrolled than Altoona, spent $28,500 per student, a vast difference. Houy said that Altoona has worked hard to keep costs down over the years.
