News reports indicate that 35 year old Ramon Ortiz was found in his cell yesterday at SCI Benner unresponsive around 12:18 am and was rushed to Mt. Nittany Medical center where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1 am. No other details about Ortiz’ death were released. The Centre County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Ortiz was serving a 5-10 year sentence for aggravated assault. Ortiz had been at SCI Benner since early July. State police are handling the investigation.
