Electric vehicle owners in Pennsylvania might be required to pay what could be the highest annual fee in the country beginning next year. The state House Transportation Committee has approved a Senate-passed bill that would set the fee at 290-dollars-per year. The exact amount of any proposed increase is still being negotiated. It will need to be decided quickly, though, because the General Assembly is only in session till the end of the week when lawmakers are set to take a holiday break. The fee is set by the State Department of Transportation , and is an estimate of what gas-powered passenger vehicles pay each year in the state’s gas tax, which is currently 61 cents per gallon.
