A Centre County man has been sentenced to serve jail time in an animal cruelty case involving farm animals. Police were called to the 150 acre Curtin Township farm of 30 year old Levi Byler last January following a report of a dead horse that had been lying in a farm field for a week. Police say that Byler told them he had to go to Florida for health reasons, and admitted no one was taking care of his cows, sheep and horses. Police say there was little food or water for the farm animals. Byler was sentenced to two months to a year in jail, followed by two years of probation, which specifies state police will have access to his property to ensure the animals are properly being taken care of.
