Most animals are unaffected by the solar eclipse, but pet owners may notice brief periods of confusion, and fear, and that’s according to veterinarians across the country. Some pets may hide, howl, pace or pant during the eclipse, and some pets may start their nighttime routine early, not so much because of the eclipse, but by the behavior of people. However the average indoor dog and cat likely will not to be affected. As for wildlife, be listening for owls hooting, crickets chirping, coyotes howling, or birds no longer singing, as the solar eclipse darkens the skies. The reason for this is a change in the animal’s circadian rhythms as a “false dusk” could prompt the release of hormones related to nighttime activities, including sleep.
