A Community Memorial Day Service honoring Sgt. Major, Charles “Bud” Early, who served in General George Patton’s 3rd Army, 80th Infantry Division, in WWII will be held on Sunday, May 26th at 11:00 AM at The Sower’s Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road in Sarver. Mr. Early passed away recently, on February 23rd, at age 102.
Sgt. Early was drafted to serve in the Army in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. Carrying combat scars from his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Certificate of Merit. He was also presented with the Croix de Guerre in appreciation from the French people.
Sgt. Early and his family will be honored for his military service with a flag ceremony and the slow salute performed by the Vandergrift Veterans.
