Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe says a local officer is the first law enforcement member who tried to confront the gunman at the Trump rally on Saturday. Slupe says a Butler Township officer was trying to get up on the roof where Thomas Crooks was positioned, but Crooks turned and pointed his rifle at him, forcing the officer to let go. The confrontation happened moments before Crooks began firing, according to the sheriff. Authorities say officers on the scene had gotten reports of a suspicious person and were trying to locate them at the time. Crooks fired rounds that grazed Trump’s ear, killed one man, and injured two others before he was fatally shot by at least one Secret Service marksman.
