A jury is expected to deliberate today on whether SCI Somerset inmate Paul Kendrick should receive the death penalty in the killing of a prison guard. Kendrick is facing the death penalty after being found guilty of first degree murder in the death of Sgt., Mark Baserman in 2018. In the past three days the families of both Kendrick and Baserman have testified before a jury, both asking for different outcomes. If Kendrick is sentenced to death he will become the second youngest death row inmate in the state, having just turned 30 this month. There are currently 94 inmates in the state who are on death row, while a moratorium on the death penalty in the commonwealth continues.
