State Bill Advances To Allow PIAA Playoff System To Be Changed

Lawmakers in Pennsylvania have advanced a bill that would potentially overhaul the state’s playoff format for athletes in high school.  Yesterday, the House Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations Committee approved the bill which would allow the PIAA to create separate playoffs for public and private schools.  The bill was introduced by Centre County Democratic State Representative Scott Conklin who said the current set-up was putting public school athletes at a disadvantage, because public schools have to recruit from within the district, while private schools can recruit from anywhere.  The bill will now go to the full state House for consideration.
