FirstEnergy To Trim Trees Using Helicopter

chopper

If you see helicopters flying over Central and Western Pennsylvania don’t be alarmed.  FirstEnergy has announced that they are using a helicopter to cut trees around powerlines in rural areas in Blair, Centre, Clearfield, Bedford, Cambria, Huntingdon, and Somerset Counties.  Reportedly an aerial saw is attached to the underside of the chopper, and limbs and branches that may fall onto the road are cleaned up by crew members on ground.  The work is part of the company’s $52 million vegetation management program to trim trees along more than 41,000 miles of power lines.
