A 62-year old, State College area man, who at one time claimed he was the leader of a statewide militia group, is headed back to prison on a federal weapons charge. In 2002 Ronald Hertzog of Ferguson Township was arrested on weapons charges during a federal investigation into possible plans to blow up the FBI office in State College. At that time he claimed to be head of the Pennsylvania Citizens Militia, and was also considered by federal authorities to be a threat to national security. Recently he was sentenced again, this time for two years in federal prison after he pled guilty to a charge of possessing a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. A judge has recommended Hertzog serve his time at a federal prison in Union County. He is scheduled to report July 28th.
