The State’s Attorney General’s Office has announced that over a dozen charges have been filed against the Equitrans Gas Company in Cambria County, following a grand jury investigation into a leak that occurred three years ago at the company’s Rager Mountain storage facility, in Jackson Township. The AG’s office says the company failed to properly maintain its gas well, which led to the leak that ultimately contaminated the ground and nearby water supply. The leak reportedly cost the company several million dollars including a one million dollar fine. According to the Attorney General’s Office, Equitrans is facing 14 counts of unlawful conduct, and prohibition against discharge of industrial wastes. In a prepared statement, the company said it is cooperating with the AG investigation.
