Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 7/27/25 (With Hopes Of Falling)

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 27 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

We welcomed musical guests into the studio on this week’s program, speaking with Ricky Hazlett, Travis Moschgat and Trevor Roberts of Cambria County-based heavy rockers With Hopes Of Falling! We learned the group’s story and discussed their music, creative process, live show and their debut album “The Majestic Front,” plus we played several songs from the album! We also updated “Local Music News,” pulled a 2004 song by Spoonchatter (in memory of Jennifer Schrift; see “Local Music News” below) and a 1985 song by Pittsburgh’s Iron Cross from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Almost Honest’s “The Hex of Penn’s Woods” album in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 072725.)

In Local Music News…

Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root and Dirk Miller will headline the upcoming sixth annual Homegrown Music & Community Festival. That event will take place on Saturday, September 6 at People’s Natural Gas Park near downtown Johnstown, with proceeds benefiting several area charities via the Community Foundation. The music will start at 4 p.m., and feature performances from the bands Even The Odds, Habatat, the Derek Woods Band and Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root with Dirk Miller. Local food and beverage vendors will be available. Tickets are $20 per person, with kids 12 and under admitted free. Charity beneficiaries will include Operation BeYoutiful, the Luke Patton Memorial Fund and the Jessie Tree Fund. One of the event organizers, Mike Hype, will be a guest on the August 24 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker” to discuss the event.

The area music scene lost two more friends and members in recent weeks. Longtime sound engineer and musician Greg Stager passed away on July 18 at age 71. He built a lifelong career as an audio producer and sound engineer; and owned and operated Knight Sound, working with countless professional and amateur musicians throughout western, central Pennsylvania and the East Coast. He was also the house sound engineer at Crowbar in State College during that venue’s years of operation.

And the music scene was also saddened with the passing of Jennifer Schrift on July 16 at age 44. Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003 and her Master of Arts in Saxophone Performance in 2009. While at IUP, she was an active member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the international music fraternity for women. She performed in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and A Few Good Reeds saxophone quartet. She performed with several area groups; including Spoonchatter, Flood City Brass, Mike Bodolosky’s Big Band, and the Keystone Winds with fellow IUP alumni. She was also a dedicated music educator at North Star High School, where she taught instrumental music and chorus.
