A Bedford County couple are facing charges after state police discovered numerous animals on their property, living in what has been described as deplorable conditions. In April, authorities found cats, dogs, a rooster, chicken and a duck at the Everett residence of William and Alissa Lewis. Police report the animals were living in such squalor that evidence shows that some of the dogs had died, and been eaten by other animals. The dogs and cats were taken from the property, and transferred to numerous animal shelters. William and Alissa Lewis, both of whom are 44, have been charged with numerous offenses which includes a felony for aggravated cruelty to animals, and animal neglect. The couple are awaiting arraignment on the charges.
