Some UPMC staffers are planning to join advocates in Pittsburgh for a demonstration to promote gender-affirming care for minors today. The medical workers are partnering with Trans YOUniting and ACT UP for a march from Mellon Square to the U.S. Steel headquarters. Participants are protesting UPMC’s decision to end hormone therapy, surgeries and other care for trans patients under the age of 19. The hospital made the change back in June after President Trump signed an executive order that directs federal officials to withhold funding from facilities that provide gender-affirming care for juveniles.
