SCI Rockview And Quehanna Closings To Take About Four Months

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections announced its final decision last week to close the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, in Centre County, and the Quehanna Motivational Boot Camp in Clearfield County, a process the state expects to take at least four months.  The decision was based on declining inmate populations, the need to realign resources, and a savings to the state of nearly $100-million.  Many residents in both Centre and Clearfield Counties have expressed concerned over the state’s decision, noting the economic impact the closures will have on these areas.  Inmates at Rockview have already begun being transferred to other facilities in the state.
