Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 9/7/25 (Sterling Koch)

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 7 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!

On our latest program, we welcomed back a longtime friend of the “Homegrown Rocker,” and a guest who has made the most appearances on the program since its beginnings, Sterling Koch! Sterling has explored and performed in a variety of genres through his career, spanning heavy rock, blues-rock, blues, Christian-themed music and gospel, acoustic, modern soul/R&B and more. Recently, Sterling has begun exploring the frontiers of jazz music, and has released several singles demonstrating this latest musical adventure. We discussed Sterling’s career and current musical explorations, and we heard several of his most recent musical creations, including his latest single, a re-imagining of Toto’s 1986 hit song “I’ll Be Over You.” Along the way, we debuted new songs from Wanderlost, Buffalo Rose and Kitchen Teeth, plus updated “Local Music News,” and checked out one of the first songs Sterling ever recorded (pre-Sterling Cooke Force days) – a 1982 rocking rendition of the Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” – for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 090725.)

In Local Music News…

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the departure of drummer Trey Boore from their ranks, Altoona hard blues rockers Sweet Desire have now announced that singer Jordan McCaulley has decided to part ways with the group. According to the group’s announcement on Facebook this past week, Sweet Desire has decided to cancel all of their scheduled performances for the remainder of 2025. The remaining members of the group, guitarist Kenton Lewis and bassist Josh Simpson, plan to continue writing and sharing music as they seek both a new singer and new drummer.

Area country favorites Chris Woodward & Shindiggin’ will shindig to a new drummer. Chris announced this past week that drummer Scott Kinsey is stepping away from the group to take a break from behind the kit, and Cooper Harris will become their new drummer. Scott’s last show with the group was yesterday, and Cooper will take over the drumming duties starting on Thursday.
