Fire broke out early this morning at an apartment building near the Knickerbocker. The fire was called in around 1:30 this morning, along 5th Avenue and 40th Street. The fire is believed to have started in a basement. While fighting the blaze, a city firefighter was trapped in the basement, but was able to get out uninjured. Fire crews are still at the scene, and currently 6th Avenue is closed at Burgoon Road, and being diverted. This is a developing story and we will have more details as they become available.
