A western Pennsylvania man is facing child abuse charges after allegedly admitting to throwing a two-month-old infant, causing severe brain and spinal injuries.  Twenty-five-year-old Jacob Piontek of New Kensington, reportedly threw the child onto a couch from several feet away, and that’s according to a release from the Westmoreland County DA’s office.  The infant was hospitalized in critical condition for several weeks at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh . While receiving care, the child suffered seizures and a possible stroke, which doctors determined was consistent with severe trauma.  Medical staff also discovered a brain bleed and spinal damage.  Piontek has been charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment.  He is currently in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of bail.  Investigators say the child has been released from the hospital and is currently in foster care.
