The Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that it has secured additional funding for its regional airport subsidy programs, through at least November 2. This allows airports like Altoona-Blair County, to continue funding Contour Airlines service to Charlotte. Under the amended notice, the Cambria County Airport will also continue funding SkyWest Airlines to allow its services to the Chicago O’Hare International and Dulles International Airports to continue. This move reverses a notice sent just two days earlier that had alerted airport officials to a federal funding cutoff on Sunday, October 12, due to the ongoing government shutdown. According to the amended notice, if the shutdown continues past November 2, the DOT will issue an advanced warning to airlines and communities.
