State officials announced yesterday that due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Pennsylvania is delaying the opening of its Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program by one month. The program was originally set to begin on November 3, and will now start on December 3, contingent on the release of federal funding to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. DHS has not yet received its federal allocation, preventing the planned distribution of benefits to more than 300,000 low-income households.
