Warning Issued Regarding Jury Duty Scams

jury-scam-calls

Officials in Bedford County, and across the U.S. are issuing urgent warnings about a pervasive scam where fraudsters, posing as court or law enforcement officials, threaten residents with immediate arrest for allegedly missing jury duty. The scammers demand payment or sensitive personal information to “cancel” non-existent warrants.  The scam typically involves an urgent, often aggressive, phone call, email, or text message.  Scammers may use “caller ID spoofing” to make their calls appear legitimate and might even use real names of judges or local law enforcement personnel to sound convincing.  If you get such a call or text do not respond to it, or share any personal information.  You should also report the call to local law enforcement.
