For our latest “Local Song of the Week,” we selected a song by rising Johnstown-based rock’n’roll band Screech Owl. “Down at the Lake” is from “You’re Not Welcome,” the first of two EP’s the group has issued. Justin Giuffre on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Giuffre on keys, Micah Mood on drums and vocals, Ryan Stacy on bass and Chris Verbano on rhythm guitar have established themselves in a number of previous Johnstown area band projects before converging into Screech Owl. Their base sound is rock’n’roll, flavored by touches of alt-country, folk, bluegrass, punk and indie rock. Screech Owl plays at several venues and events around the Johnstown and Cambria County vicinity; their next show will be on Friday evening, December 5, at Johnstown’s Venue Of Merging Arts (VOMA).
