The months-long, budget impasse in Pennsylvania is over, but area schools and counties will need time to recover. Some school districts had to borrow money, and a number of counties, including Blair put a hiring freeze in place. As a concession to secure a budget deal, Democrats agreed to Republican demands to eliminate a regulation that would have required power plant owners in Pennsylvania to pay for their greenhouse gas emissions. The state legislature’s 50-billion-dollar, no new taxes budget compromise, was signed by Governor Josh Shapiro yesterday.
