The Altoona Area School Board has filled a vacancy after appointing David Francis to fill that seat. The vacancy for a two-year term was created when board member-elect Bryant Giselman resigned in an email on November 30, citing health reasons. In the November general election, Giselman defeated his opponent, Corinna Griffith, for the seat that Francis was vacating. Francis, a long-serving board member with over 30 years of experience, had initially decided not to seek re-election because of a personal issue. However, that issue has since been resolved, and he was able to apply for the vacancy. A total of 15 people submitted letters of interest for the position.
