Verobish Gets GOP Nod For 79th Dist., Seat In Special Election

In a March 17 special election, Andrea Verobish will represent the Republican party in the race for the 79th District state House seat.  Currently a staffer for U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, Verobish secured the nomination during a Tuesday convention held by the Blair County Republican Committee last night.  She defeated Blair County Controller A.C. Stickel in a 24-19 vote.  The contest narrowed to two candidates after Logan Township Supervisors Chairman Jim Patterson withdrew earlier that morning to focus on local township projects.  The special election was triggered by the December resignation of Lou Schmitt, who vacated the seat to serve as a Blair County judge.  Expressing her gratitude to the committee, Verobish emphasized the importance of GOP retention, and told WRTA’s Dr. John McGinnis last night, how grateful she was for the win, and stressed the importance of keeping the seat red.  The Democrats will hold their special election on January 24.
