Legendary Coach John Franco Retires After 25 Seasons, Two Terms

franco

John Franco, the long-time head coach of the Tyrone Golden Eagles football team, has announced his retirement.  Franco’s career spanned more than three decades in the borough across two separate tenures.  He guided the team through its most successful periods in program history, including a PIAA state championship victory in 1999, and two other state title game appearances (1996 and 2011).   He amassed 291 wins during his head coaching career, which began in Altoona in 1986.  Franco informed his underclassmen of the decision at a Saturday morning meeting.
