The Altoona Blair County Development Corporation (ABCD) is purchasing the former 150,000-square-foot Gable’s Department Store in downtown Altoona for $1.3 million using its general fund. In collaboration with city officials and local developers, ABCD intends to transform the site into an economically impactful asset. To facilitate this transition, ABCD plans to relocate the building’s six current tenants, allowing for a temporary shutdown and securing of the facility to reduce utility costs during the planning phase. ABCD will retain ownership until a comprehensive redevelopment strategy is finalized.
