City Of Altoona Prepares For Winter Storm

hydrant

A snow emergency has not been declared in the city of Altoona at this time, however, city residents can help snow plows by becoming aware of snow emergency routes in their neighborhoods.  Residents are reminded that in the event of a major snow storm with a large accumulation of snow, a snow emergency could go into effect, at which time all parked vehicles would need to be removed from snow emergency routes.  Snow emergency routes are identified by the rectangular red and white signs with black letters.  The city will continue to monitor this winter storm, and depending on its track, may need to call a snow emergency at some point.  You are asked to stay tuned to local media, as well as the city’s website, and the Altoona Police and City of Altoona Facebook pages for more information and further announcements.  Finally, the Altoona Fire Department is reminding residents to shovel around neighborhood fire hydrants to make them easily accessible to fire personnel.  They are also reminding residents to check in on people who live alone, particularly the elderly.
