Penn State University has filed a federal lawsuit in New Jersey against several major pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy benefit managers, including CVS Caremark, OptumRx, and Express Scripts. The university alleges it was victimized by an “insulin pricing scheme” that artificially inflated costs for its self-funded health care system. Penn State claims it has been overcharged by millions of dollars since 2008. The university is seeking unspecified damages, attorney fees, and a trial by jury. This case is part of a larger multi-district litigation involving over 400 other similar such lawsuits from various states and organizations.
