Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Wants Mangione Trial To Start July 1st

mangione-2

Manhattan prosecutors want accused killer Luigi Mangione to stand trial in New York on July first.  Assistant district attorney Joel Seidemann has written to the judge seeking first dibs on Mangione, ahead of a federal trial which could start as early as September.  Seidemann cited the “heinous” nature of the crime which “spread fear and shock” throughout the city. Mangione is accused of gunning down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown hotel in December 2024 in broad daylight.  Mangione’s lawyers are trying to delay the trial, saying the Altoona police who arrested the Maryland man five days later, searched his backpack unlawfully, and waited too long to read him his rights.
