The Pennsylvania State Police is boosting trooper and public safety with high-tech patrol vehicle upgrades. “These upgrades represent a major step forward in safety, visibility, and operational efficiency,” stated Acting Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens. The enhancements feature, V-shaped light bars that provide 360-degree illumination, far surpassing traditional linear bars. Smart Synchronization which means GPS-based tech automatically syncs flash patterns and voice commands between nearby units, and multi-purpose lighting which means the system doubles as an auxiliary brake light, a traffic control arrow board, and a high-intensity floodlight. The department also equipped patrol vehicles with a new 400-watt siren system that includes four speakers and a low-frequency Rumbler device. With this, the emergency warning time for motorists to detect and respond to an approaching emergency vehicle increases. The 2025-26 state budget, signed by Governor Shapiro, invests in new patrol vehicles, to replace high-mileage units in the PSP fleet.
