Local Firefighters Battle Three Fires This Weekend

house-fire-2

Local firefighters were very busy this weekend as they battled three fires.  An accidental kitchen fire on Saturday afternoon damaged an Altoona home on the 800 block of Sixth Avenue sending a man to UPMC Altoona, and then to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment for what has been described as life-threatening injures.  Damage has been estimated at $25,000.  A state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate.  On Friday night a mobile home on Sprankle Avenue in Lakemont was totally destroyed by fire.  There was no one home when the fire broke out, but sadly a dog perished in that fire.  An investigation is underway.  Finally, an electrical fire yesterday afternoon in the basement of an Altoona home on the 1300 block of 21st Avenue displaced a man who was living there.  Reportedly, both family members and the Salvation Army are helping the man with housing.  That fire is also under investigation.
