Fire destroyed an Altoona home last night. Firefighters were called to the home located at 1910 5th Avenue, shortly before midnight. When Altoona firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed. While fighting the blaze the first floor collapsed resulting in one firefighter going partially through the floor and prompted an immediate evacuation of all units. According to the Altoona Area Firefighters Facebook page, about an hour into the incident, the home suffered a major collapse. Fortunately no injuries were reported. According to a witness, the house had been condemned before the fire. An investigation is underway.
