As Pennsylvanians continue to face some of the highest fuel costs in the country, State Sen., Lisa Boscola (D-Lehigh/Northampton) is moving to provide immediate financial relief. Boscola announced new legislation aimed at suspending the state’s 57.6-cent-per-gallon gas tax for a period of 60 days. In a parallel move to lower costs for the shipping and logistics industries, she also plans to introduce a bill to pause the 74.1-cent-per-gallon diesel tax for the same duration. To address concerns regarding the state budget, the proposal includes a provision to use bonds to backfill the lost revenue. This ensures that critical funding for state police and infrastructure projects remains intact during the 60-day suspension. The proposal was made in light of global energy uncertainty with oil prices having risen since the conflict in Iran. President Trump is predicting that gas prices will drop once nuclear threats are resolved.
