Mangione’s Lawyers Ask For Delay In Trial

Defense attorneys for Luigi Mangione, are seeking to delay his September 2026 federal trial to January 2027, citing an impossible schedule with a preceding June state trial.  Mangione, was charged in the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, in Midtown Manhatten.  While a federal judge previously ruled out the death penalty, evidence from a seized backpack remains admissible, as the defense argues against managing overlapping trial preparations.  After a five-day manhunt, Mangione was arrested on December 9^th at McDonald’s on Plank Road in Altoona.   NBC News reports that Mangione has received significant public support, with his legal defense fund raising over a million dollars, as of January of this year.
