Judge Rules Vedam Can Remain In U.S.

vedem

Subramanyam Vedam, a 64-year-old man exonerated in 2025 after 40 years in prison for a Centre County murder, has won a federal immigration court ruling allowing him to stay in the United States, overturning a previous deportation order.  Judge Adam Panopoulos cited Vedam’s rehabilitation, exemplary character, and deep family ties in granting the waiver, noting that his continued presence is in the best interest of the U.S.  While the Department of Homeland Security has 30 days to appeal, this ruling brings Vedam closer to freedom following his 2025 exoneration, and subsequent detention by ICE. Today Vedam’s attorneys are expected to file a request seeking his release on bond from the Moshannon Valley ICE Processing Center located neat Philipsburg.
