A report by WTAJ indicates that the Public Utility Commission sent out a memo yesterday to urge residents to go power shopping, for electricity in terms of who your provider is. Rates will be going up starting June 1st, anywhere from 16% up to 45%. The PUC says that utility companies will be raising the kilowatt usage for many customers, so they say to check the “price to compare” part of your bill. The reason given for the increase is shifts in electricity supplies and demand for natural gas, which drive up purchasing costs for the utilities. Companies involved in our region include Penelec, PPL, West Penn Power, Met Ed, Citizens Electric and Penn Power.
