Backyard Beats Listing 5/13/22: Abundant Live Music Outdoors and Indoors This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, May 13 through Thursday, May 19.

The live music schedule continues to get busier as more outdoor events surface and indoor venues continue to present shows and performances.

Several all-ages events take place this weekend…Sk8-1-4 Action Sports Park in Altoona presents the “NFT’s in the Metaverse” event on Saturday. This event features a wide variety of activities, including BMX, skateboard and scooter demos, art and skate vendors, a food truck, and an afternoon of live music. Vehement kicks off the music at 2 p.m., followed by The Pines, Skyline Drive, Hot Fudge Mondaes, Abstentious, The Daylight Society and SamarA. The doors open at 12 noon, and admission is $10 per person. Sk8-1-4 Action Sports Park is located at 2800 8th Avenue in Altoona.

Live art and live music again converge at McGarvey’s on Sunday afternoon during the second “Altoona Art Untied” event. Beginning at 3 p.m., talented artists will demonstrate their skills, while Randall Williams will provide acoustic musical entertainment. The event is open to everybody, and admission is free.

The inaugural concert of Duncansville Memorial Park’s “Park Jam” series takes place on Friday night, as local outlaw country favorites Stephanie & the Wild Hearts perform beginning at 6 p.m. (Last weekend’s rainy weather postponed the concert until this weekend.) Besides the music, there will also be a food truck, cornhole and other activities. Other concerts in the “Park Jam” series include Matt Pletcher on June 3, Sweet Desire on July 1, Shallow 9 on August 5 and Zac Grace on September 2. Admission to all concerts is free.
