News reports indicate that prison officials found 33 year old Matthew Van Zandt unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday. First responders performed life saving measures but were unable to revive Van Zandt. He was pronounced dead around 8 pm. Prison officials say that Van Zandt was serving a 12-24 year sentence for first degree murder out of Lancaster County. He was sent to SCI Houtzdale last September. No other details surrounding his death were made available. The investigation will continue by police and the Clearfield County coroner.
