A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that the Dept of Transportation in a letter informed the airport that it can begin its new flight schedule to Philadelphia beginning October `1st. Earlier this year, the airport announced it was going to switch from current carrier Boutique Airlines over to Countour Airline. There will be 12 non stop flights to Philadelphia beginning in October. The airport will also be enrolled in the essential air service program, which will provide federal funds to pay for charter air service to be offered by contour. Contour will provide 30 passenger jet service out of Altoona-Blair County.
