Barger Defeats Gregory in Primary Election-Voter Turnout Low

Voters in the 80th District will have a new candidate to vote for this November 5th in the general election.  Last night, Scott Barger, easily defeated incumbent State Representative Jim Gregory, 55 to 45 percent.  Elsewhere across the state, Joe Biden and Donald Trump won the support of their respective parties in their presidential nomination races.  Incumbent Democratic Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick won nomination contests for the U.S. Senate. The question of who would challenge incumbent state officeholders was also decided in yesterday’s primary. Former Auditor General Eugene DePasquale earned the Democratic nod in the race for Attorney General, while York County District Attorney Dave Sunday won the Republican nomination. Current AG Michelle Henry chose not to run, after replacing Governor Josh Shapiro. In the Auditor General’s race, GOP incumbent Tim DeFoor faces Democratic Representative Malcolm Kenyatta. Treasurer Stacy Garrity won the Republican primary in her re-election bid and will go up against Democratic nominee Erin McClelland.  Despite pleasant weather statewide, voter turnout was low across the Commonwealth, including Blair County, where voter turnout was only 26%.
