A 28 year old Altoona man pled guilty yesterday for setting a city house on fire 3 years ago, in an attempt to kill two people inside.  Daniel Sipes Jr., was sentenced to 11-25 years in state prison.  In addition to the two people Sipes targeted to kill, four others, an adult and three children, were also inside the home, located at 2621 5th Avenue.  In October of 2021 a patrolling Altoona Police Officer noticed the home on fire and alerted those inside to get out.  The  house fire was set because Sipes and a co-defendant, 33 –year-old Maria Frye had issues with the adults who lived there.  Last June, Frye admitted to physically fighting with a woman who resided at the home, hours before the fire was set.  Criminal charges against Frye, for her alleged role in this case, are pending.
