Both U.S. Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania have written a letter to Norfolk Southern after the railroad reportedly failed to share critical information regarding a derailment that occurred near Altoona last December. No one was injured in the derailment, and no hazardous materials were spilled, however national, state and local leaders have reported that the railroad’s handling of sharing information regarding the derailment, which occurred in Logan Township, was insufficient.  In their letter to Norfolk Southern, both Casey and Fetterman stressed the company needs to answer numerous questions about why it failed to notify local leaders about the derailment, and how the company can improve community outreach.
